Shillong is its beautiful capital, home to several waterfalls, parks, rolling hills and quaint land forms, and also known as the 'Scotland of the East'. Shillong receives heavy rainfalls during monsoon and the rainy season usually lasts longer than in the rest of India.

The best time to visit Shillong is between September and May as the weather remains pleasant during these months. It does occasionally rain, but it is relatively lesser than in the monsoons season, i.e. between June and August.

Things to buy:

Scottish Cloth. This cloth material is extremely classy and can be made into jackets, frocks, shrugs and shirts.
Organic Products. Shillong is a treasure trove of organic products.
Bamboo Handicrafts.
Shawls and stoles.

It would take around 9–10 Days to explore the major tourist spots. There are a lots of places to visit in Shillong. You must visit a part of this State for its cleanliness and the hospitality here.

Since Shillong does not normally experience snowfall even during winters, you can visit the place during the winter months without bothering about getting stuck in bad weather conditions.

One of the most popular attractions of Shillong, Ward’s lake is a must-visit place when in this pristine north-eastern city. Also known as Pollock’s Lake, this artificial water body is encircled by an extensive lush garden and lies in the middle of the city. Take a walk around this horse-shoe shaped lake on the cobble-stone path or simply admire the colorful floral beds in the garden. It is equally popular amidst locals, family vacationers and honeymooning couples, as a picnic spot.

There is a cafeteria too in the lake’s complex where you can gorge on a wide variety of refreshments and beverages. Lying below Raj Bhavan (the Governor’s Residence), the lake can be easily accessed via local transport.

Ward’s Lake can be visited during any time of the year. Between the months of June and July, tourism is at its peak.
